Each year a committee is formed to create a challenge for the guild members. Specific rules and guidelines are given (sometimes accompanied by a specific fabric). Each member is then "challenged" to create a quilted piece which conforms to these guidelines. Projects such as these can help push you into areas of quilting you might not otherwise go.
Each member keeps their project secret until the April meeting. On that night, after the business meeting, members view the entries and vote on their favorites. It is always an enjoyable program. We also celebrate the guild's birthday at that meeting.
Participation in the challenge is optional.

Alisha Frankfather created the VP challenge for January 2024 of “Let’s Get Uncomfortable”.
Choose a specialty ruler or printed template that you have never used before to create a quilt block. (It can be one you have purchased and never yet used or borrowed from a friend.) Turn the quilt block into something as little as a table runner or as large as a quilt. It must be quilted and bound. Then write down what you liked or didn’t about the ruler or template. Was it easy to use? What resources did you use to help you figure out how to use it? Would you consider teaching a program to show how to use the ruler?
